India’s biggest and loudest answer to Star Wars, Dune and Mad Max, Kalki 2898 AD, led by the Supreme Yaskin, continues its relentless march to the top of the box office, earning over 1000 crores and becoming the 5th on the Top 10 list. In fact, its Hindi version has surpassed RRR’s 272 crore by earning 275 crores, making it now the third biggest south Indian film at the box office after the sequels to Baahubali and KGF.
In a recent interview with SoSouth, Kalki 2898 AD’s production designer, Nitin Zihani Choudhary, talked about the creative process behind the design of the movie including the Supreme Yaskin set, and had several surprising reveals along the way, including insider info on who Kamal Haasan’s Supreme Yaskin was supposed to be.
Talking about the giant Oblivion’s Tet meets Alita’s Zalem meets Elysium Complex, the inverted pyramid space station located in Kashi, Nitin revealed that there are six other such Complexes worldwide, each led by their own Yaskin. While there was a lot of talk about Kamal’s Yaskin being the personification of Kali, Nitin quickly dismissed that by claiming that he wasn’t actually Kali and that he actually sees Yaskin as a fallen god.
He also casually drops a line that Kali may not exist as such and talks more about how the team flipped the idea of good towering over evil in the actual design of the production. How much of this is insight into the production and how much is potential Tom Holland-ish spoilers that’s likely to land Nitin in trouble with director Nag Ashwin, remains to be seen.
