Bollywood actress and newly elected Lok Sabha MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, found herself at the centre of a dramatic incident at the Chandigarh Airport on Thursday. The altercation, which involved a CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) official, has sparked widespread reactions and brought to light the underlying tensions between public figures and law enforcement.
The Incident
On Thursday afternoon, around 3:30 PM, a CISF constable, Kulwinder Kaur, allegedly slapped Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh Airport. The incident, captured on video, quickly went viral, prompting Kangana to address the situation on her Instagram stories. She expressed concern about the growing terrorism in Punjab and questioned how authorities are handling such issues.
Reaction and Accusations
In her Instagram posts, Kangana condemned the incident and criticized the film industry for their silence or, in some cases, celebration of the attack. She warned her colleagues that such incidents could happen to anyone and emphasized the need for solidarity. Kangana’s message read, “All eyes on Rafah Gang this can happen to you or your children as well”.
The Constable’s Justification
Kulwinder Kaur, the CISF constable involved in the incident, provided her reasoning for the slap. She stated that Kangana’s previous comments about the farmers’ protests deeply hurt her, alleging that Kangana remarked protesters were paid a mere hundred rupees to sit in protest. Kaur’s mother was among those protesters, and this personal connection sparked her reaction.
Official Response and Investigation
Following the incident, authorities suspended the CISF constable and lodged an FIR against her. Kangana Ranaut, who left for Delhi on a Vistara flight shortly after the incident, met with CISF Director General Nina Singh and other senior officials to explain her side of the story. An inquiry committee comprising senior CISF officers has been established to further investigate the matter.
Kangana’s Political and Social Stance
In her statement, Kangana reiterated her safety and expressed concerns about the rising extremism and terrorism in Punjab.
