Move over, Korean action movie remakes. This one is quite a biggie, as it brings in both the worlds of Bollywood and Hollywood together. In an age where “creatively remaking” Hollywood movies has been the norm, we have a rarity where Hollywood is looking to remake an unique IP from the Indian shores. The team that brought us the iconic John Wick films, 87Eleven Entertainment, have recently purchased the rights to remake the action blockbuster from Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Kill.
Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, Kill’s director, is teaming up with John Wick brain Chad Stahelski (as well as David Leitch of the original John Wick) to create this reimagining. Bhat’s story will be reimagined jointly by the filmmakers and promises to marry the gun-fu spectacle of John Wick with the decidedly vibrant action sequences of Kill. This cross cultural collab promises to be an amazing celebration of action cinema, with thrilling stories and compelling characters in an explosive frenzy of Bollywood-meets-Hollywood.
The remake will bring the story of Kill to life while pushing everything that happens in it up a notch (or ten). Kill is currently playing in theaters and has earned nearly 7.5 crores at the box office till Monday. The movie is likely to have its OTT premiere on Disney+Hotstar in the near future, although the date is as-of-yet, unannounced.
