The Punjab Kings (PBKS) snatched a narrow victory from the jaws of defeat against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a low-scoring thriller at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Chasing a paltry 145 set by the Royals, PBKS rode on a captain’s knock from Sam Curran (63* off 41) to secure a five-wicket win.
Rajasthan Royals, who elected to bat first after winning the toss, got off to a shaky start. Yashasvi Jaiswal fell cheaply in the first over, and wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals. Riyan Parag, tried to hold the innings together with a fighting 48 of 34 balls but the lack of support from the other end restricted them to a meagre 144.

Faced with a seemingly straightforward chase, the Kings themselves found themselves in early trouble. Openers Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow departed cheaply, leaving them at 22/2.
Enter Sam Curran, the hero of the day. With the scoreboard reading 59/4 and tension rising in the PBKS camp, the young all-rounder took charge. He played with a mix of caution and aggression, finding boundaries at regular intervals and rotating the strike smartly. Jitesh Sharma provided valuable support with a cameo of 18 runs, before falling prey to Yuzvendra Chahal.

This win keeps PBKS’ playoff hopes alive, while Rajasthan Royals’ season continues to stutter. With just two matches remaining, it will be an uphill battle for the Royals to qualify for the next stage.
With only 9 matches left to be played the playoff battle has heated up immensely with KKR already qualified and the remaining spots yet to be filled.
