The eighth match of IPL 2024 was a run-fest for the ages! Played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batsmen put on a masterclass, thrashing 277 runs in their 20 overs against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
Openers Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi got the orange army off to a blazing start. Sharma, who was later adjudged Player of the Match, continued his fine form, scoring a well-paced 84. The middle order joined the party as well, with Travis Head (62) and Abhishek Sharma (63) contributing valuable knocks.
MI Fall Short Despite Valiant Effort
Chasing a mammoth total, MI needed a special effort from their batsmen. Tilak Verma (64) and Tim David (42*) played some breathtaking shots, but the asking rate kept climbing. In the end, they fell short by 31 runs.
Records Tumble
This match was a record-breaker! SRH’s score of 277 is the highest total by any team in an IPL match against MI. There were also a combined 38 sixes hit, the most ever in a single IPL match!
