Bulbbul (2020)

Set in 19th century Bengal Presidency, it follows Bulbbul, who was married off at a young age to the wealthy lord Indranil. Her bond with Satya, his brother, becomes her solace. As mysterious deaths blamed on a Chudail haunt the village, Satya returns suspecting a doctor named Sudip. Through flashbacks, we learn of Bulbbul’s tragic past—abused by Indranil and accused of loving Satya. Transformed, she seeks justice for oppressed women, ultimately confronting her past. The film boasts visually stunning cinematography and promising performances.

Udaan (2010)

Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, this 2010 drama stars Rajat Barmecha as Rohan and Ronit Roy as his father. It tells the story of Rohan, a 16-year-old aspiring writer, who returns home to his abusive father after being expelled from boarding school. Despite his father’s wishes, Rohan pursues his dream of becoming a writer while working in his father’s steel factory. Along the way, he forms a bond with his young half-brother, Arjun. “Udaan” is a must-watch for its touching narrative.

Tumbbad (2018)

Directed by Ajay Bahl, this crime thriller stars Richa Chadha and Akshaye Khanna as lawyers embroiled in a legal battle over a sexual assault case. October (2018)
